RUMINATING
Yahoo, by Microsoft
I don’t see it happening, but I do think that if a company has ever been primed for takeover, Yahoo is it. This former internet juggernaut needs to redefine its brand. It used to stand for searching on the Web. They nonchalantly gave it up to GOOG. Now, after a tremendous offer by Mr. Softee, they stand to be either the target of a hostile takeover or broken up like an old Ma Bell.
Google and the Band
So, Google went ahead and bid just enough to trigger the open-network clause but then backs off and seems to not care if Verizon and others takes it all to the next step. I’m wondering how Google will move now. Will they decide to purchase a device manufacturer and use their own platform first? Will they simply let loose the platform without any major link to a revenue model? Could they possibly need any more revenue? When will their internal mantra of “Do no evil” cease to exist?
Run, Joey, Run
The Presidential Primaries and Caucuses are causing a stir and I’m wondering if Obama can beat Clinton. They’re virtually tied in the race after this weekend and they’re both bleeding more money than a government R&D shop. Let’s hope that the fight continues. Competition is the key to democracy.
Staffing
Why is it so incredibly difficult to find good talent in a suffering market? One would think we’d have fifty people lined up at the door. Amazing.
Projects
We’re working with Harvard on a wonderful, large IA / Usability / Project Management engagement. We’re working with a brilliant company in Waltham, MA called Auspice. We’re working with a large real estate investment and services company in central Massachusetts and we’re always looking for more…
Carl Lindberg, Jennifer Stuart and Byron Manley
You guys make working on the Web enjoyable and appropriately challenging. Thank you.
Taxes
I pay someone to do my taxes. I am either brilliant or out of control stupid when it comes to this subject. I’m glad there are others who do this for a living.
